How to import video and images into After Effects

Very often you need footage or images inside your project. It is straightforward to import files in After Effects — takes like 5 seconds.

Steps to import video and images

Go File → Import → File from the top menu, or just press Ctrl+I (Windows) / Cmd+I (Mac).

A file browser pops up. Pick your videos, images, audio, whatever you need. Select what you want and hit Import. Your files show up in the Project panel on the left, ready to use.

Drag them into a composition and they’re on your timeline. You’re done. Start editing.
